Club Information

The Waterside Sharks Takedown Club is an exciting new club in the North-West. Based at the old Clondermot High School complex, Irish Street, Waterside it combines the disciplines of Olympic Freestyle Wrestling and Judo to provide students with unparalleled sporting instruction.

Our aims are: 

  • To instill our athletes with a deep sense of respect, for themselves and each other.
  • To help bring local communities together through sport.
  • To demonstrate the benefits of physical exercise.
  • To create of a sense of unity and teamwork within the club.

Wrestling Training Times

Training for Freestyle Wrestling only takes place every Thursday in:

Fees 

£2.50 for Juniors and £3.50 for Seniors.

 Juniors (7-13 years)  7:00pm - 8:15pm
 Seniors (14+ years)  7:00pm - 8:15pm

New - There is an additional training session on Wednesday evenings at 7.00 pm and the classes are open to all seniors with the focus upon fitness, grappling and hands on wrestling practice.

Licensing for Wrestling

We strongly urge all our students to obtain a license of membership from the British Wrestling Association Ltd (BWA).

The license is valid for one year from the date of purchase and costs £36 for Seniors (18 years old +) £24 for Juniors (12-17 years old) and £12 for School Pupils (under 12 years old).

Remember to list your club as "Waterside Sharks Takedown Club."

You can no longer post your application to BWA Ltd directly however do not hesitate to contact the club administrator should you require further advice regarding your application.

NIWA Membership

 

In addition to BWA membership we also strongly urge you to seek membership of the regional governing body, the Northern Ireland Wrestling Association (NIWA).

 

The benefits of membership are as follows:

 

·         Only persons who hold membership of the NIWA will be included in the Northern Ireland squads.

·         Only persons who hold membership of the NIWA will be invited to attend inter-club training sessions.

·         Only persons who hold membership can represent the club in domestic or national competitions.

·         Regular updates on the progress of wrestling within Northern Ireland

·         An invitation to and participation in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NIWA.

 

As with the BWA, a membership of the NIWA runs for a calendar year (from January to December) and for 2009 fees have been set at the following rate:

 

 Seniors (16 years and above)  £6.00
 Juniors (under 16 years)  £3.00
